Old Mo and the Fit Men pummel Pedmore!

Pedmore 144/10 v Old Mo 278 (Old Mo win by 134)

A tough week for the Fitmen selection board with a mass of regulars missing through injury, holidays and suspensions after Tukkkkerrrs brown cards. Leaving the Fitmen with 8 players on Friday night, one with no spikes! Luckily for the Fitmen, two new signings in Faraz and Martin were added over night and a strong squad of ten were unleashed for a Fitman debut outing at Pedmore.

Most of the pre-match talk on the journey to Stourbridge was down beat, realising that tea may not be too good after the oppo had requested we take our own match ball. Fears of this were allayed due to Tom Carrols Saturday night internet stalking over the oppo announcing on arrival “these boys do a bloody good tea”. He was right.

A beautiful ground on a stunning day, with uncle Mo in attendance it was an easy decision for skipppeerrrrr to chose to bat after winning the toss. New Fitman Faraz looked comfortable and was unlucky to fall early to a good catch but with uncle Mo already timing a few shots beautifully, a partner was needed. The youth of the side in Martin (a long time since that has been said) was next to bat, and a glorious partnership evolved. As Fitmen drank Red Stripe in the beautiful Pedmore sunshine stating they could watch this partnership all day, Gav was sat at home thinking of what could have been as Ayoze Perez rolled home for number 3.

Good knocks from Jim Frost (22), Holgate (29*) and DDH (22*) kept the run rate high after the hard work of uncle Mo (135) and Martin (44) the Fitmen were left with a total of 278 to defend. During a fantastic tea which will never to be doubted again, Pedmore let the Fitmen know on more than one occasion that 278 was just a par score on that wicket.

Pedmore started their innings quickly and after 8 overs were up to 50 runs. Kindly Pedmore gave the Fitmen a player, and it was Taylor who made the breakthrough picking up two quick wickets. The undefeated streak of 2018 then looked as if it would remain in tact as the Fitmen regularly made break throughs with Jon Howes taking a key wicket, debutants Faraz and Martin taking 2 and 1 respectively, DDH 3 and Raj summoning his inner Ade Martin to mop up the youth for a deserved wicket after a tough opening spell. After knocking the oppo over for 144 in just over 30 overs it was back to the pavilion to celebrate our 100% record with Red Stripes and left-over tea.

Thanks to all those that made the effort to play and especially those with short notice, hopefully Si can arrange another away trip to Pedmore next season.
