SCORECARD
Better never than late?
Fitmen 144-7, WMD 93 all out
Fitmen win by 51 runs
The old adage, ‘you’ve got to be in it to win it’ applied on Wednesday night.
Out under instructions of ‘if it rains……that’s it’ from Herr Thommo, there was never a chance of either rain or a Fitmen loss. Usual caper – we were there and they weren’t - however this time Jim decided to bat.
The Bicemeister (22 at 105) opened his account as if he hadn’t had the winter off……same with Si (6 at 40) really!
Still, the die was cast after the first 5 overs. The Fitmen were going to rack up a decent target, but fully aware that WMD always have talented chasers……….just that this time they didn’t rock up until too late.
Admiral Frost scrapped as if it was his first game after a long winter’s lay off but eventually got the general idea (23 at 77). Cometh the hour….cometh the mountain that is Mohammed. 49 at 170 is a good knock! Pulling, pushing, hoiking – it was IPL in B13.
He then inspired the ‘tail’ (i.e. post Mo) to try and beat the rate .... and a few did. Tucker upped his ‘stand still’ rate to 71, George Dawes didn’t waste any time or scorers lead, and Umberto was brutal for his 4 boundaries. QED – 144….try that!
After the turnaround, Sharif was the star – how mean is 3 wickets at 1.5 per over? Ably supported all round with a nod to Ash (4 overs, 2 wickets and just 4 per over) and then the cameos of the night. Jonesy was expensive but picked up the biffer, Harris was sublime – give ‘em easy runs but watch ‘em tumble (3 wickets in 3 overs) and then the coup de grace from Martin as he kept it below 5 and got a wicket.
Emphatic win for the home side in ideal conditions…………….until it got dark. But this early in the season, just get there early if you want to see it late in the match!
Well played Fit Blokes – a good win.
