SCORECARD

2 FitSkips and 3 hat-trick balls…
Old Mo win by 36 runs

The new-fangled and innovative combination of FitSkips Howarth and Tucker bamboozled the Mermaids from the off. The somewhat understaffed oppo drew on the talents of Bournvillian Ralphie, and then requested a couple of our boys to run around in the field…

The inaugural toss was won (no need to call…) and the Mermaids were duly invited to (hopefully) chase some leather…once we had located some.

A behind schedule Ricky Bice meant the Butcher was promoted to Numero Uno. He and Si took guard only to then swiftly depart for a brace of tin hats – Ralphie was deciding to pitch it in his own half you see…

Si got excited at the pedestrian paced attack from the other end, and dangled one to the keeper. Bicey then took umbrage at being demoted to 3, promptly slapping 31 to all parts of the ground. Johnny H Jnr turned up just before dusk thus claiming the Number 11 slot.

In form TC Jnr took the helm and along with Butch kept the rate up – TCs knock including an eyes closed 4 come 6 off a Ralphie beamer. The rain steadily dribbled – as did the wickets…standard cameos from Mr T and Ade inched the score above 100, whilst a never seen before Sunny impasse slowed proceedings. A double wicket maiden brought Nutter to face the first hat-trick ball of the evening – duly negotiated! 114 was tight but defendable?

Indeed it was as Sunny manfully bounded up the 1 in 500 incline – double wicket maiden and hat-trick ball number two of the night – slung this one down the leg side mind.

Johnny H Jnr didn’t fancy getting in on the wickets, but stole the Champagne moment after a dainty hurl from long-off to backward point – trying to get them to run 4 perhaps??

Guy struggled to get under Sunny’s economy, and with the spin twins Nutter and Butch operating in tandem, the Mermaids were strangled and departing at regular intervals. Nutter’s run rate improved when he bowled however as Ralphie took aim, and with the game looking likely to be a close call the Butch wrapped things up with a 4'fer, aided by a couple of stumpings – the final act was hat-trick ball three which, alas, failed to bring a jug. All round good bowling and fielding display from the FitMen.
