Fitmen still in hibernation??

Fitmen 89 All Out, lost to Highcroft 278-9, by 189 runs

After the staple winter diet of Christmas Fare, Enville and Pork Scratchings, a hastily assembled Fit XI dribbled into the Graveyard for the season (third) opener, against our once familiar foes, Highcroft & Great Barrrrrrrr.
Hamstrings were stretched (albeit @ nets all the way back in February), and the Captain for the day was presented with the now customary Swedish Krona (worth an EU busting eight and a half pence) with which to bamboozle the oppo' skipper. Indeed it worked a treat, as he called beger sig, and it fell down, eventually, on svansar. April - moisture in the air - cold 'n' cloudy - only to get colder later on - chance of rain (got that wrong - turned out to be hail FFS...!) surely alllllll the ingredients that, when cooked up, amounted to a Bowl First decision? Yep.

FitBowling/Fielding [sic]
Firmly poured into newly acquired Lycra, Guy offered to take the newest of new balls, from the NotTheGolfCourse End. Smart swing and early season swishes resulted in a smart spell, and, with Greg (7-1-27-2) in tandem from TheGolfCourseEnd, getting nip off the par 300 wicket, the pair put the squeeze on such that Highcroft were 33 for 3 after 10 overs.
Change of plan from the Fitmen skipper, coupled with a similar change in plan from the Highcroft batsmen, soon accelerated this to 130 at drinks! Jonesy and Pat took the brunt, before Sharif and Bal (MS?) Singh applied mid-innings brakes, sharing 4 wickets in 16 ish overs, for less than 80. Sharif 7.5-0-37-2; Bal 8-0-39-2.
With Guy and Greg returning towards the back end of the innings, a score of 230 was mused over as being "more than enough". Take into account then the fact that Guy who, in his 7 overs managed 2 maidens, still went for 56 off 7, and you get the picture that the middle order took a liking to the leg-side golf course target...
Fitcatching seemed to be MIA, with at least 7 chances being shelled - fines may be the order of the day to accrue an end-of-season piss (up) pot??
So, after retirements of the batting kind and a not-so-magnificent 7 drops, Highcroft set a formidable early season target of 279 to win...back to the bar pronto!

YES!! Backatchya Highcroft - Curtley's Egg Mayo, Pat's Cheese n Pickle, Line Caught Tuna, Spicy Iceland (Halal?) Pizza, pork and pork and pork savouries, cake and biscuits and cake and biscuits and cake and biscuits and cake and biscuits!!!

Suitably sated, a new opening partner was offered up to Tom, in the shape of Gav Hall. First Fitrun of the season was crafted from the bat of Hall, who was then, and not in isolation, scuppered by the extremely accurate opposition bowling. Tom scratched around for 15, Sharif gurned to the top score of 22, and Ade scrambled 17, these being the only scores of note in an all out performance of 89, despite instructions and encouragement to ""keep 'em out there 'til 8 pm". When you are faced with the 'keeper standing back to everything that was nippy, accurate, swinging and seaming, then a combined effort of 89 seems pretty honourable! Add to that the fact that Bal (MoM) has got one third of last seasons runs in one shot already, and all is again well with the world.

Back to the bar to de-fragment the game with the oppo - ahhhhh wait...
Chat soon turned to the Foxes pummelling of the Fitmen'esque Swans, surely en route to a spectacular Premiership Crown. Let's all cheer them on at Old Trafford this coming Sunday!!
