SCORECARD
VICTORY ON THE FIELDS OF FECKENHAM
What a glorious evening for cricket. The Mo midweek team escaped the big city for their biannual trip to the countryside. Feckenham cricket club is a perfect venue for cricket with fields as a backdrop and the village church on the boundary. As always AMS were the perfect hosts.
With Jim Frost the skipper late due to a detour to pick up a last minute addition to the team, Simon Howarth persuaded the opposition that there was no point tossing and that the Mo should bat first. A great piece of negotiation as batting 2nd in the dying overs would need a miners lamp.
Richard Bice got off to his usual aggressive start before holing out for 24 shortly after Simon H had succumbed to a wild swipe. Wickets then tumbled with Harris, Lawson and Chaz all perishing to a mixture of rash shots. This left the skipper and Sharif to pick up the pieces and both were up to the task, each making 26 before retiring not out. With a couple of overs left Volcanic Ash and Sunny struggled to make an impression whilst returning old boy Martin Reeve chipped in with an unbeaten 2 off 3 balls.
The Mo posted a score of 134 helped by a generous portion of extras and if previous fixtures between theses two sides were a guide then this was probably 15 runs short. From the moment that Volcanic, steaming down the hill, took his first wicket however the Mo fielding outfit was always in control. With everybody bowling two overs it was pleasing to see every member of the team contribute with a wicket(s) catch or runout. Notable performances were Ash 2 for 11, Simon H 2 for 12 and Dan Lawson taking his first wicket on his return to the club. Martin Reeve showed great enthusiasm in the field stopping several fiercely struck drives and taking a well deserved wicket late on.
Unusually for a midweek fixture and most welcome too, food was served. A big thanks to the boys from AMS for making the run to the chippy returning with a mountain of sausage and chips.
May all games be so good!
