Fitmen on a roll
Fitmen, 129 for 7, beat Wavis, 119 for 9, by 10 runs

Pinch, punch...first of the month - Fitmen started a bumper filled June of Cricket Fixtures.  All arrived well before the 6 pm start time.

Gavlar prematch caveman ritual of a bucket of KFC was devoured. The lesser spond initiated had not read the morning news and were disappointed to find the usually well stocked bar at Solihull Municipal being closed due to covid restrictions. Thankfully 12th man Stevie Nicks to the rescue to provide all thirty fitmen with a well-stocked cooler of Corona - great team man.

Jonesy stepped in at the last minute for the family man Smouldy won the toss, by going against all logic and Welsh heritage and called HEADS! Bat please.  Game settings:

2 overs per bowler
Retire on 25
LBWs - on
Leg side wides on but 2 runs and no extra ball

Batting - order was drawn out of the hat and with plenty of horsetrading, finger-licking Gavlar and student Dan opened the innings, both getting into double figures at over a run a ball.  Tucker top-scored with 27 off 29, much needed runs but struggled to time the ball on a slow low wicket. Tony - 10 including two quality thumps to the threw midwicket.  Howarth decided to walk on close run out because their keeper was getting on his wick Bother Nutt and Waseem gave the end of the innings some impetus and found the perfect way to bat on this wicket was to wait for the ball and mow the ball baseball style. Dad Moore and Jonesy in tribute to Taylor Swift felt 22 and enjoyed 2 little ducks. Houlgate 200 strike rate!

The total 129 not bad, but felt a little under par at the turnaround.

Bowling - Fitmen fielding is always like herding kittens, some fielders wandering about, some needing telling what position to stand in every over, some taking over fielding positions from the boundary.  Add everyone bowling 2 overs and it's an hour of pure and unadulterated stress. Thankfully 11 men this evening brought their best to the fielding and their two overs. The scorecard speaks for itself, but notable mentions must go to Howarth for his twofer. Tucker king of the swing, Brother Nutt for some sublime death bowling 1-6 and Houlgate taking two stumpings.

It was close all the way to the last over and Fitmen won by 10 runs.  The first-ever win at Wavis. Good work lads.

2 wins in 3 days and we go again tomorrow again Mermaids.  We go again
