Fitmen Fall Four Short in Four Hundred Run Fest
Old Mo Fitmen, 195-6, lost to Whitehall Wanderers, 199-5. by 4 runs
Beautiful Barnt Green, home to Warwickshire CCC 2nds, was the setting - sadly we were on an under 10s track on the edge of the square, coupled with a circle of flags outlining the 20 yard boundary.
Not sure who won the toss - probably the homesters, but they soon racked up a tad short of 200 - everyone bowled 2 overs, retire at 25.
Si, DDH and Lockyer snagged a wicket apiece.....Yarkshire Visitor Bob the Vet (yes...a small animal orthopaedic surgeon...not simply a Veteran), assisted with a run-out, whilst Chaz skittled 3 batters in sharp time, including a young lady which meant the return of a retiree - 18 off the last 3 balls set the pace....and 200 was the formidable target......
Skipper DDH decided Football Team Selection was the order of the day, with Tranmere in at #2....hence Father & Son, Moore & Moore, opened, with Sam retiring - three maximums in the bag....back to the old Moore we know and love.
Lockyer nurdled 20 odd, and Chaz fell one short of the three maximums he had conceded, clubbing two monsters in also reaching 20 odd. Jonesy slapped a quickfire 19 before being hung out to dry getting run out - under the very watchful eye of a retired Sgt too....
Sharif hoicked a retiring 27, whilst Gaverllllaaaaaa wasted no time, not even giving the ice chance to melt in his blue gin, smazzing two maximums to also retire - Bob the Vet got the other maximum Chaz was owed, off Chaz's bat, and Tuckerrrr and Si were left with the task of bringing it home...sadly a lofted drive was snaffled by the fielding side with 4 to win off the last.
Great effort by all Fitmen, look forward to returning to Barnt Green as soon as we can!!!
