The Noble Highborn Prophets from Blackwood Mistakes - Could it be Magic?

Fitmen 61-3, beat Blackwood 60 All Out, by 7 wickets

With the 'toss' taking place just on the boundary edge under the comfort of the pavillion, the oppo' skipper won and had no hesitation in deciding to bat. Being requested to field first under glorious sunshine is never a nice outcome, particularly when the 'oppo fixture secratary was waxing lyrical about their Take That Tributer averaging 100+ in T20s with two tons already...
And so it was with trepidation that the new cherry was lobbed to Dangerous Dave Healey - more of the Dangerous later...
DDH managed to get some nice nip off the seam, but anything wayward was battered to the relatively short fine leg boundary with contempt.
Sharif opened from the Greenhouses end, and immediately took the middle stump of the LH opener first ball - and in the same over he was rewarded with another victim, ending with a double wicket maiden for starters!! This set the tone for the rest of the innings, with some dodgy shot decisions being made against disciplined FitBowling.
Dave toiled from the Golf Course end and was rewarded with his own scalp, clean bowling with another one that nipped back sharply off the seam, finishing with fine figures of 8-0-33-1. (4.13 per over).
Raj, largely overlooked as the opening bowlers did the damage, bowled again with great discipline and nice swing for his solitary over, claiming a wicket for only 5 runs.
So, lets get back to Sharif. Two wickets in the opening over. Surely a Five-Fer beckoned. Indeed it was to be, and with expert assistance in the form of DDH claiming a great catch at short-fine-leg, trapping the destructive Robbie Williams Wannabee LBW (after having him clearly caught behind) for a duck, and then surely THE catch of the day by a fully stretched and diving Si at mid-on, a very quick 5 fer was bagged.
Tom C claimed 2 sharp catches along the way, before Sharif took a blinder off his own bowling, and by now the record was on...maybe even going one better than this guy????
And so it was, that on the 3rd July 2016, the record did tumble. With another victim being clean bowled, our expert web surfer claimed a quite outstanding 8 wickets, for only 14 runs!! 8-1-14-8, ending the Blackwood innings at 60 all out, in 17 overs...
With a little nod to the EU Referendum result, Sharif humbly accepted the match ball in fine fashion. As for the batsmen...

An immediate turnaround was agreed upon, during which a debate ensued on what to do in the event that the Fitmen chased down the total in quick time - some form of T20 was duly proposed.

Batting went well, aside from a few seamers that did for Gav, Mr Weed and Jonesy, all bowled by low skiddy nippers, which brought about mediocre panic amongst the FitDressingRoom, before it was over to Anchorman Si and Master Blaster Ralphie to bring home the game in under 16 overs; Si 26 Not Out with one four, Ralphie 23 Not Out with two fours.

So tea brought out the customary sarnies, with extra secret ingredients in the egg-mayo, and some Cockney sourced savouries, accompanied by a Malteser® meringue which was the perfect foil to Mr Weeds Exceedingly good cake Selection!! Add to that a now jubilant home skipper being requested to "Have a proper T20 as we av a league game in the week Matey - Bostin", to which the answer was, yes indeed my fair gentleman, as you like...

So, changes were made to batting orders, Fitmen won the toss and batted first, managing a very respectable 126 for 4 ish.
Jonesy crafted a great 48 not out, assisted by man of the day Sharif, who, after a mid-session lie down, smashed a nice 33.
Wickets were scarce in the Blackwood reply, claiming only 6, Sharif taking another 2 to end up with 10 for the day!!

Si clean bowled one and had another stumped... - which lit the blue touch paper, signalling the start of some in-house ('oppo) argy bargy, before a skied chance was dropped whilst the batting pair screamed through for a quick single...call the cops! DDH on Full Alert now!!! Ably assisted by Angry Ant from short fine leg...

Anyway, with a Little bit of....Patience, These Days you can Never Forget that one batsman is due to Shine in their quest to Rule The World, and Everything Changes when the fielding side drop catches - It Only Takes A Minute for the game to turn - allowing the newly appointed oppo' opener to have his Greatest Day smashing a quick fire 50 to bring home the (non Stat counting) game for Blackwood.

Bar takings saw a dramatic increase, during which France started to show how to really play against a team run by a dentist...
Lemmings away next week.
